IN THE DULL VILLAGE
In the dull village where he works—
as a clerk in a general store,
so very young—and where he is waiting
for two or three more months to go by,
two or three months until business slows down,
so that he can move to the city and throw
himself into the action and the entertainment.
In the dull village where he waits—
he went to bed tonight full of lust,
all his youth burning with the desire of flesh,
all his beautiful youth in a beautiful passion.
And in his sleep all his lust draws near; in his sleep
he sees and possesses the face and the flesh he desires…
