POEM BY MILTOS SACHTOURIS
CLOUDY DAY
For Thanos
This black man, next to the shining woman,
has such a compassionate heart
that no white people with their ebony canes have
who pass
laugh
greet
and my friend who returned humbled from Switzerland
so saddened for the naked people on the roof tiles
yet there isn’t any well baked sweet
although there are innumerable sweet women
who have only hanged a grey cloud over their shoulder
which gets slowly darker
and the world has forgotten its raincoat and its umbrella
while the cloud raises its black finger
“we aren’t sweet for you,
humble people”
the women yell
“where can you passing sellers hide
chewing your gum in your mouth
or a curse”
they all stare as surprised as they are
paintings are hanging
on walls in the street
very strong colours red and green
and the rain delays
and the smile delays
and joy delays
they all get hold of each other’s hand
although they know that the first
Thunderbolt has already stricken.
