Poem by George Vizyenos
DEBT
Whoever challenges his luck
and with no rudder sails the seas
will meet a tempest and
be cast away and drown.
Whoever builds a nest
on an unstable rock
before he even settles in it
the rock will tumble, burying him.
Whoever stumbles and attempts
to stand again by trusting
other’s kindness will be pushed
down never to stand up again.
Blessed is the one who takes no risks
and stays secure in his own house
who never needs to beg the foreigner
nor even to depend on his own countrymen.
