Repetitions I
Topography
Up here the stones have darkened from the ancient fires
of shepherds and hunters.
Wide chests, sharpness of the air, shrubs stir from
the movement of wild goats or deer. The big snake
slithered itself along the rocks. Further down small
chimneys cense the evening. Cows and ploughs
left in the yards. A trough full of tomatoes shines.
Corn hanging off the ceiling beams, smell of
moonshine after the grape harvest.
And up here
statues wearing coppery peplums, trunks of pines,
stony horses. A gun shot was heard. The cloud fell
vertically into the river.
