Anton drove pointlessly around the roads until his truck found the way to Molly’s diner. It was early for lunch but what the heck he could always have a piece of his favor cheesecake; Molly’s cheesecake was delicious anytime of the day or night. He parked and walked in. Two other men were sitting at the counter and one table was occupied by two other men. He took his seat at the counter. Molly showed up from the back and upon seeing him she poured a cup of coffee.
“Good morning Anton, you’re early today. Cheesecake?” she asked him with a broad smile that revealed her beautiful line of teeth.
Anton nodded his agreement to the cheesecake and Molly went to get it.
Molly, a beautiful and tall blonde, managed her own diner after she divorced her drunkard husband who was good for nothing other than the booze and a quick lay here and there, a lay during which he would fall asleep half way or partly into the action, Molly always wondered what motivated her to marry the man. Yet, loneliness played a role, Molly was at her early twenties back then, ready to follow tradition, “get married and have children” her mom used to always remind her;
self-doubt also contributed although while Molly perhaps wasn’t a pretty actress she was a well-balanced woman with beautiful features and a body dedicated to Eros, all these and of course the lonely life in a small city prompted her to say yes to the logger Rob, who liked to get to work every morning having at least two good drinks of hard alcohol. It might be early here, he used to say, but I’m sure it is evening somewhere in the world and it’s time for a drink; their marriage lasted only a year and an half and luckily there were no children; so Molly kept busy at the diner which she put together with moneys her mom left her when she died at the early age of 48. Now, Molly, a 29 year old mature woman, has a good earning sheet and the respect of the city folk who know what she went through with her logger husband, who, on the other hand, soon after their divorce, being drunk as always on the job, was incapacitated by a falling tree, and he’s been living of WCB pension and welfare assistance. At least now he can have a drink at any time of the day irrelevant of what time it was somewhere else in the world.
