“It sounds good, son; I’m sure you’ll do just fine; just be careful. It matters to do your best and to face every issue that arises with utmost care and professionalism. I couldn’t expect anything else from you and I have no doubt you’ll do just fine…keep me posted with whatever might come up.”
“Dad, your comment the other day, about abuse taking place in the School, I heard similar comments from others; is there anything you wish to share with me?”
His father kept on slowly chewing on his food; silence stood between them but not for too long.
“I’ve heard that the kids are abused, mistreated, flogged, and other things. It pays to be careful, avoid places and things you aren’t supposed to be involved, have an open eye and a tuned ear…some kids who left the facility have opened up to psychologists, therapists, band elders and rumors describe nothing but evil. Be careful, that’s all.”
“Dad these are children, who’s abusing them, the priests and nuns of the place? It’s so hard to understand let alone believe it”
“I know.”
“They all call the children savages; I heard it from the priest who hired me and from the caretaker”
“They have named all North American Indians savages…these are the Anglos who reign over this country for most of the years in its short history. But think of it son: if the kids are savages what that makes them Anglos, who abuse them and flog them and never mind all the other things we hear?”
