(Excerpt)
“Here is my kingdom” the old man repeated, “but let me take you to the laundry room to check on the machines and what they do for us.” They walked out of Dylan’s office and one door down was the laundry facility: a huge room with two windows looking eastward, six washers and six driers, plenty of countertop space, two big closets, with detergents and other cleaning items, and few green bins with clean clothes in them. There was also an internal door which led to Dylan’s room.
“These are my babies. They’re constantly busy” he said to Anton; “they clean the uniforms and other clothing items of these savages and their beddings. It’s our job to keep this going day in and day out. The cloths are placed in hampers, and the maids collect them from the dorms when the time comes then I get them from them and deliver them back to the maids as the clean stuff gets ready. One section of the sleeping quarters at a time, first the girls’ clothes and then the boys’.”
