(Excerpt)
oh night vigils and festivities
how the fields and crevasses
harbours and neighbourhoods
were filled by you,
oh long nights and festivities
how the chorded zurna
encircled you with
a demon’s endless roar,
oh night vigils and festivities
how you’ve dragged me
and how you started and
with song and death, you stopped.
Oh long nights and festivities
under the immense starlight
in monasteries and houses
in longships and darkest taverns
on the castles that chains
and abysmal ditches besiege
in turrets were noble maidens
abductors of the heart reign
and in the thorny ruins
in the light that gives birth
to the agate’s dream
over the peaceful waters
opposite all these and in them
I, the ravaged gypsy singer
was a foreigner in all
I always looked from afar.
