Logan was another true
Cretan, Eteo liked to say, with the same thought processes—Eteo
called them analytical—the same pleasant manners, and he was good
with the girls too. Eteo recognized this from the reactions of the
young women in the office, the assistants of other brokers, the girls
in accounting, all of them. He had often caught Logan in a “close”
situation with one or other of the young woman in the office.
Yes, Logan was from good stock, the same Cretan stock from
which his father came. And he was growing into a sensible young
man with his feet planted firmly on the ground, focused on what he
was doing. Eteo turned and looked up at his son, admiration shining
in his eyes and a warm smile completing the positive connection between
them. Not that Logan hadn’t gone through some rough patches
like every other young man, but he had turned out to be a solid character
with good head on his shoulders, a head that Eteo was confident
would steer his son in the right direction. Logan would face challenges
and setbacks, just as his father had, but they would be lessons
in how to behave and how to treat others. Eteo’s job now was simply
to give Alex the benefit of his perspective, that of an experienced,
successful man in his middle forties, and try to keep him away from
big trouble, nothing more.
“What did you find out?” Eteo asked as soon as he had put the
phone down.
“Everything we heard from Herbert checked out. The word on
the street says the deal is sound. Proven reserves and potential for a
lot more. The property location is in a developed area, with roads
and access to it quite easy. Only good things, Dad”
Eteo smiled. “Good, very good. Go after your list and organize a
dozen or so clients to get them into this. We have another dozen from
my side. Don’t forget Herbert’s promise about the financing. We’ll
have a little more stock available to us from that—40 cent financing
with a warrant at 50, good numbers for a small company like this
one. I only hope they get a little lucky with their exploration, nothing
else. By the way Herbert wants to meet me very early, before the
opening, so he can buy a few more shares; we should accommodate
him before we get any shares for other clients.”
