Without any warning, the head trader, John Mellino, a shrewd
Italian-Canadian who had been in the country almost as long as Eteo,
walked into the office and straight to Eteo’s desk, wanting to know
why his best broker was after this small company’s shares. Eteo
replied simply that it was a company he liked and that he was accumulating
a few shares for some of his clients. Mellino winked at him.
“Come on, man, you know me better than that. What is going
on? Something I should know about?”
“Leave it for now, John. When I have something concrete, you’ll
be the first to know.”
“Come now, Eteo. I won’t go until I hear something reasonable
from you. You know I mean it,” John insisted.
“Okay, John,” Eteo replied with a sigh. “Let’s just say I heard a
rumor of a new deal…but nothing more. It’s just a rumor.”
John smiled and walked quickly out of Eteo’s office. A moment
later Eteo noticed bids for shares of Platinum Properties firming up
considerably. He smiled. He had a chunk of shares from the company’s
financing, and if the deal went through, he would have a good
piece of it for his clients. “No sweat,” he thought, John was a good
ally to have when a company’s shares were on the move. He could
bring people in, which could only help Eteo’s bottom line.
He dialed Susan’s number.
“Hello, pretty woman.”
“Hello, handsome man.” Susan’s voice sounded like a talkative
creek, a babbling brook, the chirp of a bird in erotic inspiration.
“I want …you.” Eteo gave a soft laugh.
“Ah, you do, eh?” Susan teased him back.
At that moment, Eteo’s eyes caught sight of a new trade taking
place. His firm had bought a good-sized block of shares of Platinum
Properties. He turned his attention back to Susan.
“Yes, very much so, but I have to go. Sorry.”
“I do too.”
This left Eteo wondering, but he knew she would tell him more
later. For now, he needed to call John at the trading desk.
“You good?” he asked when John came to the phone.
“All good here,” was the reassuring reply.
