GALILEI’S Lamentation

what to construct
a telescope for
that shows
impossible things?

why raise
the eyes
to an empty
sky?

mankind does not
know how to look

nevertheless, I believe
in mind
and the temptation
of the unknown.

that is why I construct
useless things
and think
the unthinkable

ΘΡΗΝΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΓΑΛΙΛΑΙΟΥ

 Γιατί να εφεύρω

το τηλεσκόπιο

που δείχνει

τ’ αδύνατο;

Γιατί να υψώσω τα μάτια

προς τον έρημο ουρανό;

Το μάτι τ’ ανθρώπου

δεν ξέρει πώς να δει.

Μα, ας είναι, πιστεύω

στο νου και στην πρόκληση

του αγνώστου

γι’ αυτό έχω εφεύρει

άχρηστα εργαλεία

και διαλογίζομαι

το ακατανόητο.
