II
the foolish virgins
coupled
with the trees
in the forest
many virgins
and many trees
the time
of the great
rain
their uteruses were
untouched
pure
as much as after
as before the storm
yet
when the clouds vanished
and the sun
shone again
I remained
a prisoner
in the dark
living room
with the red velvets
and the heavy
persistent smell
of mould
and lust
through the window
I saw endless roofs
with marble railings
that went down
to the sea
and I was alone
with one
unfamiliar
man
leaning in darkness
over the piano keys
of the Clavichord of Silence
my face
was ravaged
like a leaper’s
nothing was visible
from the regrets
and bitterness
of love
yet
the unfamiliar
man
every so often stood up
in his dark corner
and undisturbed
tyrannized me
from dawn
to darkness
and incised over
my forehead
like a terrible symbol
these words
father-mother
male-female
