“You probably don’t remember me. I met you at the auction
yard when I sold my mare.” If he was ever going to have anything
more to do with a woman, he would definitely have to work
on his pick-up lines.
“Oh, sure I do. Sorry, it just took me a moment. I knew that I had
seen that face some place before. I just couldn’t remember where.”
With the receptionist patiently waiting to escort Joel down the
hall to an examination room, he offered, “I can see your daughter
isn’t feeling well. Poor little sweetheart. You seem to be in a big
rush. If you want, I don’t think anyone would mind if you took

to at least speak.
“The doctor thinks she is on the mend already.”
“That’s great,” Joel replied.
“You know, for the life of me, I can’t remember your name . . .
Oh, are you a Hooper? Joe? That’s it isn’t it?”
“Well, close enough. It is actually Joel. Just like Joe but with an
‘l’ on the end.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be.” He was pretty pleased that she remembered most
of his name. As far as he was concerned, she could call him anything
and he would be a very happy puppy.
“Well, Mr. Joel Hooper, I really appreciate what you did.
