You brought the phone to your ear
and I noticed your lips trembled
as the sad news from the other
side of the line reached you
I looked at you with questioning eyes
you signaled to me to keep quiet
then I knew your heard about a death
and I wanted to kiss your trembling lips
before your mother’s death
would cover them with a mourning shroud
and I knew you wanted my kiss
as I neared you and gave you a hug
when you shut the phone
and let your sigh spread
a deep scar upon the sky
