Beast
This landscape
deadly
where the wheat ears arc
silenced by the work of the sickle
here and there corn fields and
the thin beard of his excellency the ambassador
when the old ant carries his crop
using the carts of night and
the janissary rat arrives
at the rocky ships and the castled cities
dryness toughens
the eyes of the black clocked woman and
the salt of our silence.
Here
an invincible curse ripens
to spring out like the blood of slaughtered animals
sultans and ministers and priests
this place: Armageddon.
