And now that May has come
with its joyous daughter
the First of May celebration
when the gypsy populace
get drunk, yell and turn wild
over the flowered fresh plain
the Festival of Kakava while
the riverbed that splits it in two
small brotherly pastures that
eye each other across
the mother river, a field over
which a strange celebration
commences, once a year
on the First of May with its
flowers and abundant joy.
