last goodbye to the man who had spent thirty some odd years in
the school and was now leaving for good, and leaving nothing
behind him other than the diary which was a witness of what had
transpired within the walls of the mausoleum for the thirty some
years he was around.
Anton and Mary stood together during the short funereal
ceremony under the watchful eye of Father Jerome and the
smiling lips of Sister Gladys who loved all she saw; she knew
Father Jerome must had paid attention to the idyll and most likely
he would come to her for information, at which time she would
surely convince him to get Mary out of his mind for good. Yet
Sister Gladys also knew that Father Jerome wasn’t the man who
would easily leave his prey fall off his talons, after all he was as
possessive as all the condors on earth.
“He couldn’t have…” Mary said to Anton when he mentioned
to her the last entry in Dylan’s diary, “he couldn’t,” she
repeated what she thought was unbelievable.
“I remember once I caught Father Nicolas and Father
Thomas holding hands; are they gay?” Anton asked.
“Father Nicolas is, Father Thomas serves him, everyone
here knows this; I’ve noticed it too; but I didn’t know he goes
after young girls.”
“Was there an administrator some time ago doing such
things?”
Mary looked at Anton with questioning eyes.
“I found an entry about an administrator getting a girl
from the female quarters.”
“Yes there was one, but Father Jerome sent him away.
There were lots of rumors about his behavior towards the school
girls, even the local press got involved. They came to the school
numerous times asking for things, digging, into the rumors…
