Bevan is silent and Jerry knows he has made things worse with his comments.
“Look, don’t see it as impossible. Keep on trying; keep on looking at the
positive side of things, if there is one. If you cannot see a positive side, invent one;
the same as the protocol and the army do at times. Invent the positive side of
things and hide behind that; then, of course, nothing will bother you from then
on,” Jerry says all this although he knows it’s not the real answer.
“I don’t think I can do that, Jerry. You know me better than that, I’m sure;
which leaves me with the other idea,” he says, stoically.
Jerry wants to leave that last comment unexplored, “Look, why don’t you
come this way sometime soon and we can talk like in the good, old days, pal to
pal; we’ll have a couple of beers and perhaps play a game of golf.”
“Oh, thanks, Jerry. I’ll make a point of doing that soon. Thanks a lot. You
know, sometimes just talking to a friend is the only thing a person needs. I’m
happy you are okay. Say hi to your wife, and keep well.”
“You keep well too my friend, we’ll talk again soon, okay?”
“Okay, Jerry. Thanks, goodbye.”
Hakim looks at his watch; it is 11:10 a.m. He still has to finish this small report
but changes his mind and calls Peter into his office.
“Have a seat, Peter. What do you have for me?”
Peter whispers, “I believe we have two more directors on side. Jerry is ours
for sure, and I’m eighty to ninety percent sure Robert Major is the other.”
“You don’t have to whisper, Peter. So we have the accountant and Robert
Major. Very good; that leaves only Anthony on the other side. Have you
approached Anthony?”
“No, I haven’t as yet; however, if I get a solid reading on Robert, I’ll have him
take on the treasurer. They are good pals.”
Hakim is skeptical; if they can get Anthony, the treasurer, on side they will not
even have to go the extra mile to take control of the company, which means it can
happen more quickly than previously thought.
“Very good. Why don’t we get Robert out for a drink later on and see what it
may take to convince him that our plans for the future are the best he could have
under his belt?” Hakim says.
Peter smiles, as he realizes Hakim’s vision and strategy have a promising future.
“That sounds pretty good. I’ll put it together for early afternoon, better yet,
for lunch.”
“Yes, let’s do lunch; we’ll go to Mario’s. Call and get a table.”
“Deal!”
