“Of course, I will be there.”
“Okay, I’ll get the other two.”
“By the way, what did Anthony say when Robert approached him?”
“He said his loyalty lies with the company first; a good political answer, I
suppose,” Peter says.
“Yeah, I agree. Let me know if you do it today, okay?”
Happy with the news from Peter, Hakim continues on his walk. It is a very
pleasant morning, with the temperature hovering around 20 degrees Celcius. He
walks by the small pond where the ducks still argue about their share of crumbs
and his mind goes to the company. What direction should he take it? Perhaps he
should get the broker’s opinion from New York.
He feels so good he stops again at another bench and calls Talal catching him
with Emily on their way to the travel agent.
“Hey, how are you?”
“Hey, to you, too. I’m okay,”
“What are you up to?”
“Emily and I are driving to the travel agent; what’s with you?”
“My plan at the office is going very well; we have them by the balls.”
“Now, that’s good news. Congratulations, my man! You rock!”
“Yeah. By the way, I e-mailed Ibrahim and he knows you are coming on a
holiday to Iraq with Emily. He says he looks forward to seeing you.”
“Good; what else did he say?”
“Nothing else; only that he’ll have Rassan ready. By the way, what do you
need to do with the travel agent today?”
“We are just going to pick up the tickets.”
It’s already twelve o’clock and Hakim still wants to continue walking. His mind
jumps back to the company. Now that he controls it openly, what direction should
he take to improve the value of the shares? The answer lies with Regis in New York.
If Regis can find them a good public relations firm, Hakim will hire them in a
heartbeat.
He’s on his way back to his apartment when the phone rings again. It’s
Jennifer. Hakim agrees to go for lunch with her. He has a quick shower and gets
dressed when he notices a message at his workstation from Peter. He notices a
message on his phone, as well. Peter has tried to reach him both ways while he
was in the shower. He reads the message at his workstation. Everything is set for
this coming Monday at 10:00 a.m. Hakim is invited to attend the director’s
meeting, even though he’s not a director.
