only the Circle H horses but also to leave a lasting impression on
the buyers. Cindy had been hinting to Joel in their nightly chats
about the clean-up that he might want to consider, but he always
seemed to take the conversation some place else; she wasn’t sure
if he didn’t hear her or if he was ignoring her. What do men know
about this sort of thing anyways? Maybe she would have to take
charge and go out to the ranch and take care of this as well. And
that is what she decided to do. With a quick call, she arranged for
Lila to spend the next day with her grandmother. Then, when
Joel phoned that night, Cindy suggested that she come out to the
ranch the next day for a visit.
Of course that was music to Joel’s ears. Not only was he
excited about seeing his beautiful girlfriend but he also had something
that he wanted to show her.
As Cindy drove the last few miles to the Circle H, she was
pleased with her early departure from Great Falls and was looking
forward to all of the work that she would get done. With the
sale less than two weeks away, the horses were as ready as they
would ever be. She was certain that she could convince Tanya
and Harry to pitch in and help her and Joel spruce the place up.
As she was driving out to the ranch, the list of cleanup chores was
getting longer and longer in her mind, and some of the chores
surpassed the definition of clean-up. Painting the corral fences
and repairing the rotting posts fell into the category of maintenance,
but she was going to orchestrate the great Circle H
Clean-Up and was going to give it her all.
Approaching the ranch yard at the end of the long gravel road,
Cindy had a sense that something was different. Then it hit her.
The whiteness of the place. Yes, that was what it was. As Cindy
turned off the gravel access road and into the yard, she couldn’t
believe what she was seeing. The place looked great. It practically
sparkled. The rotting posts were replaced, the corral fence was
painted a bright shiny white, and the barn was freshly painted
and had a new roof. The house’s brand new paint job made it
look like it was right out of Homes & Gardens magazine.
