OCEAN’S MARCH

We shall not condescend to cry:
we have won forever
Joy of rough seas
of calm sea
of departing
joy of the eternal voyage
let the dock lights turn off
let us enter the ocean’s heart
in the endless song of nightly waves
while God
from the height of his great loneliness
stones our courage
with illuminated dreams
Oh endless pain Oh universal joy
fire of the firmament
that burns down the black hair of night
and lights the dawn over white sails
over the high masts
where the poets climb
to salute the new face of God
reflected smiling in the waters
amid the frame of two drunken seagulls
Sun sun
that paints the sea with blood
I offer myself naked to your fire
to light the eyes of men
My brothers
listen to your voices to my voice
listen to the song of the sun and seaplace
