REPETITIONS, SECOND SERIES

From Oracle to Oracle

He, Parmeniscus from Metapontion, went to the oracle

at Livadeia — young, vigorous and at the same time polite.

When he walked out of the cave, we couldn’t recognize him;

He was a spectrum of himself; he had lost his mind, totally

exhausted. His handsome chin was trembling, stuttering

unknown sounds, like  a baby or an old man. The prophet

couldn’t explain the meaning of the oracle. Parmeniscus

was then forced to consult the Delphi oracle, perhaps he

could heal himself from what happened to him at the

oracle of Livadeia. However none of this happened. Soon

after the young lad disappeared. Yet, still today, in our

gatherings, many hate him while others admire him, not as

much for his handsomeness but for his foolish, deadly,

futile courage.
