Repentance is the Sinner’s Punishment
Repentance is
the Great Sinner’s punishment
while the black waterfall
of his viscera
washes away the few
traces
of his innocence.
His comrades stare at him
solemnly, his flesh fools him
with promises
of continuance
he still tries to utter I love you
while he slips insignificantly
in the icy music.
He will now learn that
goodness balances
what we call the economy of nature
when the guilty
becomes the victim and
his other self appears
to be cleansed.

He will now learn that
goodness rises
from the sick belly of the act
when schizophrenic
handicapped babies,
holding two hands together,
grope blindly
while swollen, they’re
swept away
by the garbage service.
