“My dear, I am in the delightful position to tell you that we
would like to offer you the chair of economics. The school has carefully
followed your achievements from the first year to the last, and
we received permission from the Ministry of Education. Therefore, I
welcome you to this university as a colleague.” He extended his hand
to Hermes, who was speechless. He never expected them to offer him
such a position right after his graduation. Now his head was really
throbbing. He didn’t know what to say.
He shook the dean’s hand and uttered, “Oh, thank you very
much, Dean. What a surprise, but a very pleasant one, I might add.
I am overwhelmed; could it be possible for me to postpone the decision
for another day?”
“Of course, you could take your time. This position is open for
you, only for you, for a while. How about if you came by my house
tomorrow or the next day, and we could chat about it. Besides, there
are a few other things you need to consider since you must go abroad
for two years to take up studies before you can really establish yourself
completely at this post. However, everything has been taken care
of: the scholarship, the financial aspects, everything.”
“The day after tomorrow sounds the best to me, Dean. I’ll come
by your residence for sure.”
“Great. I look forward to seeing you. Good day, Hermes.”
“Good day, Dean.”
Hermes rushed out to find Eleni with Paul and a couple of other
graduates who were curious about what happened, however, he was
in no mood for a long discussion, so he only gave them the gist.
They were happy for him and urged him to accept. Hermes told
them that he needed to think about it and took Eleni by the arm, and
they left. They took the bus and went to Eleni’s house. Her parents had
been away for a month, and now the house was just for the two lovers.
When inside, she hugged and kissed him passionately. His
mind suddenly got preoccupied with the heat of her body. They made
passionate love.
