He had always admired Frankie as a plainspoken, straight-to the-
point kind of man, always focused, always pursuing his plans in
an orderly, patient way, always getting positive results. Eteo knew
without needing to think about it that Lionsgate would go far, and
Wheaton too, Frankie’s latest project. How nice it would have been if
Richard were the same calibre of stock promoter. The drilling might
still turn out well, but all Eteo’s experience and know-how told him
to be pessimistic. To improve his mood, he called Ariana.
“Hello, sweet baby, how’s your mom?”
“The same, my love, but today she refused my help. I tried to
make some tea for her. You know how she loves her tea. But today
she wouldn’t let me make it for her.” Eteo sensed her tears, then heard
a sob.
“Don’t be upset, my sweet love. At least you’re there for her.
Think of my mother. She’s old and needs her baby son, and where
am I?”
“Yes, I appreciate that, my love, but it hurts me to see her changing
from day to day and always for the worse.”
“Yes, but you’ve got to be patient, baby, and give her the space
she needs. She’s in her own world, after all. You just need to stand by
her. You can’t do anything else.”
“I love you, Eteo,” she murmured as if a bird had chirped a single
time.
“I love you too, sweet baby. Would you like to come over tonight
and have supper with the boys? You can stay over, and tomorrow
morning I’ll take you home before I go downtown”
“I’d love to. Come and get me when you’re ready.”
“Around 5:30 to 6:00 then.”
After his walk Eteo stopped and shopped for the dinner things
he needed. He prepared the food at home and around 5:30 he went
and picked up Ariana. They had a quiet supper all together, and afterwards
Alex went to meet his buddy James, while Logan went out for
drinks with Mitch and Jonathan on a date with a young Greek
woman, Dorothy, whom he had met at Simon Fraser.
