And then at the first opportunity you crossed me for a few extra dollars.
You know the game, and you know this is a small community.
Everything eventually comes out. I’ve come to know exactly what
you did and exactly why the whole thing fell apart.”
“What do you mean, Eteo?”
“That asshole Glen, your promoter, came to me. He told me
everything and he even made up for some of the trouble he caused
me. He looked after my losses. You, on the other hand, have never
come clean with me.”
“Oh, he did … I see. I never came to you because I didn’t want
to expose that asshole. That was all. I would never have crossed you,
Eteo, if it was only our company, but we had that moron, Richard
Walden, who just hated what we were having, and for that reason I
walked to the other side. The plan was to take care of his stock, and
since Robert brought him into the company, to take care of Robert’s
position, and then we would have come to you.”
Marion paused to take another sip of his wine. Eteo said nothing,
waiting for the rest of the story. Fidgeting with his knife again, Mario
continued.
“Unfortunately, Glen never managed to bring the buying we
needed. He was going all over the place downtown looking for some
promotion, but he didn’t manage. He even went to a couple of bad
doors, but they all sensed his weakness and wouldn’t commit. In fact,
Glen lost a 40,000 cert he gave to a bad person, Jimmy, you remember
him, the one who was killed. Glen even went to him, but nothing was
agreed.”
He paused again and looked down.
“I heard from Rudy that you dealt with the wrong fish in the
pond. Now I know who he meant. Rudy explained all the details to
me. He’s a close associate of that Glen guy, and he was instrumental
in convincing the man to come and make it up to me.”
He looked up now with a penetrating expression.
“Eteo, you would have been taken care of separately. Glen and I had
a good offer for you, and we would have come to you with it after taking
care of the other two partners, but it never came to that. The moron insisted
on going to the VSΕ officials before we could do anything.”
