SEPARATION
After the wild whirl of love
such separation brought me
sadness vaster even than
the sea that lay between us
but in my heart I hold the sea
so when the wave sings by the shore
its endless grievance will evoke
a saddened hymn, an antiphon
a mourning psalm, a sob
that crying with the sea
from end to end engulfs the shore
in tears, till at the end
our longing sinks into the sands
and turns my sorrow into songs.
