He dials Peter’s number.
“Hi, Peter, what’s up?”
“We are doing very well. This new product, did you have a chance to look at
the data I left you?”
“Yeah, it looks half decent; do you think we can do as well as these
projections show on paper? Who prepared this projection document,
anyway?”
“We hired an analyst who has done this for us; it cost us a few thousand
dollars to put together. However, he has a very good reputation for accuracy
when it comes to things like this, so I feel good about the data; even if we get
two-thirds of what he projects, we’ll still be well ahead of where we are now.”
“Yes, of course. Good job, Peter. Put it together, and start marketing this
thing to see how well we fly.”
“Thanks, Hakim, I’ll keep you posted. By the way, Lorne is here and very
happy with the performance of the stock.”
“Good; I am happy with that as well. It was a good choice of public relations
company you found for us.”
“We granted them some options from which they are to get good money,
provided the price of the stock keeps going up; they are quite happy with the
whole affair, and I expect them to continue working with us.”
“Good job, Peter, good job,” Hakim puts the phone down; then dials New
York to reach Regis Hudson, his stockbroker. He gets lucky and Regis comes to
the phone.
“Hello there, Hakim; how are you?”
“I’m doing well, Regis. How are we doing over there?”
“Your portfolios are ahead by twenty points since last year; I have no
complaints. We are heading in the right direction.”
“That’s good, Regis. However, I’m calling you for another reason; my uncle
is very sick in Baghdad and I want to let you know I’ll be calling you a lot more
often from now on. Now to the matter at hand. You know our little company
here. We’re doing a lot better in our financials, and are doing a lot better when it
comes to the product line we’re marketing. Our stock price looks a lot better, as
well, don’t you think?”
“Yes, Hakim. I have kept an eye on your stock; you’re doing extremely well, a lot
better than a lot of other companies in your field. What do you want me to do.”
“I am a true believer that everything is for sale at the right price, and that is
what I want you to do for us. Start looking for a suitor; I wouldn’t mind letting go
of this when the price is right.”
