“Thank you, Gino. I’ll start tomorrow if you want.”
“Yeah, tomorrow is good,” Gino said and left them alone.
Giovanna grabbed his arm before he made a move toward the
door.
“Wait for me here for a few minutes. When I’m done, we go
together.”
Her eyes were burning him; he felt the need to touch her again,
so he sat down on a barstool. Fifteen minutes later, they both left for
his dorm. They spent the afternoon enjoying the pleasures of their
sexuality to the fullest.
Two weeks went by quickly, and Hermes went back to his fulltime
studies in business for the second part of the year. His courses
were a full load, and he had a few reports to prepare. He was always
busy with his studies except when he found the opportunity to meet
with Vanna and have their “casual thing,” as they called their lovemaking.
He achieved top grades in all courses, and he reported all his
academic progress to his folks back home.
Despite his busy schedule, Hermes also found chances to
intermingle with the other Greek people he had met in Vancouver.
Often enough, he got invited to a home for dinner or just for a coffee
and some socializing. He liked associating with these people; in a
way, he felt he belonged with them, since they all had come from the
same sun and spoke the same language, and they all had the same
nostalgia for Greece. He enjoyed these gatherings a lot: a few of these
Greeks were educated, although most had not had university degrees,
but were always interested in current events. They spent their days
in a balanced way, by adjusting to the Canadian way of life, while
they kept their Greek customs, following religion to the best of their
abilities. They functioned within the community, according to the
ideals of their faraway homeland. Hermes would argue that these
Greek-Canadians followed the church doctrine more than the people
back at home and perhaps this was because they lived in a foreign
land and considered the church their connecting thread, the glue
that put them together, not realizing that…
