ESCAPE

There wasn’t any peace in the room. The rosy cheek

of the lamp; the tired warmth, the security and the friendly

talk that repeated endless words; their controlled shadow

on the floor and little motionless reflections on the shoes

of the women. The youngest daughter opened the door

and leaned her forehead on the rough, hairy darkness. 

They all felt the cold that entered into the room. They got up,

           they closed the door. They didn’t notice the youngest daughter was missing
