POEM BY PAULINA PAMPOUDIS
FOURTH DAY
On the fourth day God
stood by the water’s edge
and caressed the invisible
things rising in their thrill
and they took shape
and became purple rocks
on the seashore and they took
shape and turned into
deep caves filled by the winds.
Then God turned toward
the opening of the valley
and he positioned on the earth
and he established in the air
the exactness of constellations
and the presence of the trees
