Poem by Odysseus Elytis
MARINA
Give me mint and basil
and verbena to smell
and with these I would kiss you
what first would I recall
The fountain with the doves
the Archangel’s sword
the orchard with the stars
and the well so deep
The nights that I took you to a stroll
to the sky’s other side
and I stared at you rising
like the sister of the Morning Star
Marina my green star
Marina light of the Morning Star
Marina my wild dove
and lily of the summer.
