“You don’t say,” said Joel. “You think we would be able to
compete and do half decent down there? I wouldn’t want to haul
all of that way and end up looking like a hick.”
“Hick? You would look like an idiot if you didn’t go. You just
beat some of the best, you fool. I bet almost every top rider from
our classes this weekend plans to be there. You have already
proven that you can beat them.”
“Well, I’ll think about it. It sounds like an interesting possibility.
Why don’t you check out the dates and we’ll see how it
looks.”
With those words, which Joel didn’t mean to be quite as
encouraging as Tanya interpreted them to be, she leapt across the
table and gave him a big hug. The waitress thought it was cute.
Young love. Even if he was a little old for her.
After a celebratory dessert of apple pie and vanilla ice cream,
Tanya and Joel headed out to the truck and trailer. While they
were checking on the horses, a car drove over from the gas
pumps. The car pulled up to Joel, who was on one side of the
trailer, and the driver rolled down the window.
“Hi there, cowboy.” It was Cindy. Beautiful, luscious, incredible
Cindy.
“Oh, hi Cindy. Haven’t seen you for a long time. What have
you been up to?” inquired Joel. He knew that visiting his place
was one sure thing that she hadn’t been up to.
“Mostly just working and taking care of Lila. You know how it
is. Always busy. I have been meaning to get out to your place for a
visit. I still have that napkin. How would it be if Lila and I drive
out tomorrow? I have the day off and I know that Lila would love
to see your babies.”
“Sounds great. Why don’t you come by for lunch?”
“Tell you what, let me take care of the lunch. I will pack a picnic.
How does that sound?”
“Okay. We’ll see you at noon.”
