“Then, Bevan is the breaker of ‘The Circle’? What are the authorities going to
do when something that serious happens?”
Ibrahim brings his finger to his lips as if to warn Talal to keep quiet. He
looks around once more to make sure nobody is about to enter the study and
tells him, “All we need to know for now is he needs something we can provide
him with. From there on, it’s his game, his job to see it through. Regarding
the authorities, they won’t be able to pin anything on anybody for a long
time. That is because they’ll have to deal with the fact that one of their own
decorated admirals has got to this point and they can’t do anything about it.
How could they camouflage it or how will they present what happens to the
American people? That will be their dilemna for a long time. Then they will
start looking around for a person they can pin it on. In the meantime, you
and Hakim are to come here out of their reach. Believe me, he’s out of their
reach!”
“Okay, my uncle. When it comes to undermining and such, what means do
we use to achieve such a purpose? Any means?”
“If you are trying to ask me if we kill, the answer is no. We don’t do what they
do. Under no circumstances do we drop down to their level. The war cost this
country some 1000,000 deaths and billions of dollars. Yet, no, you choose a
different means of action. I make that clear, a different means of action. You’ll
hurt them where it really hurts—in the wallet. That’s where their values and
beliefs are; that’s what you’ll undermine; no killings, no maiming.”
Talal is quiet. Ibrahim, watching him, says, “Don’t worry about that right
now; when the time comes, you and the six others will find plenty of ways to
succeed in your goals, trust me. You’ll find many different ways to do that. That’s
why you have been given an education. That’s why you have the knowledge;
you’ll find the way. What do we have plenty of that the world has been hearing
about for so long?”
“They are after our oil.”
“That’s one of your weapons; that’s your first and most valuable tool. You’ll
find others when the time comes, you’ll see. You have to form your alliances with
others who share our views: the neighboring countries, the ministers, the
officials. All that will take place when you apply yourselves and focus. But all this
belongs in the future.”
Now Talal understands Ibrahim’s plan for the seven students and for his
ultimate plan. Ibrahim has explained how they can use oil as a means for their
goals. There is always a result one can predict to a certain point of accuracy by
using resource as an end to a means. He remembers back around 2008 when the
western economies went into a tailspin primarily because the price of oil jumped…
