…his house to enjoy being with them and not a soldier who would obey
every command of his master. He didn’t want obedience from his pet;
he wanted Elvis to play and have fun with them. And they enjoyed
Elvis for all the ten years he had been with them; up to now, up to the
day of the diagnosis that made them realize this beautiful, healthy
animal could die within 5 months.
A shocking thought. Stunning revelation. Unacceptable conclusion.
Deadly realization.
Would they like to have a zombie of a dog on chemo or a pet
who could live in peace during his last months on Earth? The dread of
the moment was interrupted by a phone call. It was his son. When he
informed him of Elvis’ situation, he mentioned a specialized place, on
Boundary Bay Center. They had oncologists on staff whom he highly

where every detail was written: a horrible sight with a period at its end,
an unwanted ending.
He turned and looked at his wife. She knew him well after all
the years together: this wasn’t what he expected to hear from the vet
on their first meeting. He got up. The vet was surprised since she
hadn’t finished her selling presentation. He felt that she expected
them to buy the best product; that’s how she was looking at them,
that’s what she was aiming for, not any real concern for their Elvis,
only schedules, costs, down payments, insurance coverage, no…
