café at the intersection of the main roads from Chania to Kastelli east
to west and from Kolibari to Deliana north to south. He is gazing
vigilantly at the smaller road half a kilometer away on the hillside
that connects the upper part of the village with the lower part. He
sips his coffee in anticipation of what his imagination is telling him.
He has a very creative imagination, and he can form the most vivid
images in his mind of things he wants to do with Antonia, things his
teenage ardor yearns for but does not know how to handle yet, exciting
sensual things. His imagination is still in overdrive when he
catches sight of a girlish figure in a yellow dress coming down the
road on the side of the hill half a kilometer away. Quickly he finishes
his drink, pays the server and gets up, thinking that he can meet her
right around the old school if he walks quickly enough, and when he
reaches the schoolyard Antonia is walking round from the other side
of the building, all bright and beautiful in her yellow dress with the
fire just under it.
Eteocles calls, and she turns and sees him, then pauses and waits
for him to catch up. He rushes to her and takes her hand, and they
walk toward the back road, but he stops and draws her into the shade
under the back door of an abandoned house. Under the casing of the
door, he gets very close to her until he feels her breasts touching his
chest. and Antonia, as unfamiliar as she is with such things, as unfamiliar
as Eteocles, whispers “How?” and “What do you want,” and
her whispers make him even more excited. He bends his head toward
her and they kiss. A deep kiss, an erotic kiss that seems to make their
bodies melt. Their legs tremble as Antonia raises her arms and embraces
him. They kiss again and again. Suddenly Eteocles reaches
down between her legs and touches her there where he feels he has
to touch, as if an unknown power compels him and as his hand finds
the tender flesh between her legs and knows that Antonia is ready,
they hear a voice from a fenced part of the hill above them.
“Bravo, bravo! Congratulations! Bravo, bravo!”
Without looking up to see who is mocking them, Eteocles and
Antonia walk as quickly as they can toward the other side of the village.
Eteocles walks in front and Antonia follows him as if they have
nothing to do with one another until they reach the end of the village…
