Anna said hello to Paula, and then she said to Costa in Greek:
“How have you been? You look … vigorous.”
Why would a woman as beautiful as Anna call a man vigorous?
Perhaps she had heard of the trouble Costa had with his health lately,
that tiny coronary blockage that others called a heart attack, but which
Costa considered a dreadful, inappropriate term. Yes, he thought,
Anna was most likely referring to that and wondering how Costa had
managed to escape the irresistible hug of Death.
“I’m very well, pretty one. Thank you for asking.” Costa said,
again in Greek, and then the little devil guided his lips to throw a question
her way.
“Tell me, pretty one, what does your husband feed you to make
you grow prettier as the days go by?”
Costa detected a tiny flame in her eyes. His question had gone
well. She smiled her sexiest smile back at him and replied, “He doesn’t
feed me anymore. I’ve grown up, you know. I feed myself now.”
Costa wasn’t sure how to interpret this. Where was she driving
this conversation? Could she have taken his words literally? Surely
not. She was playing with him. Almost absentmindedly, he grabbed a
stuffed vine leaf, though he always found them too salty.
“What if I could find the opportunity to feed you, pretty one?”
Anna laughed, but instead of a ‘no’ she replied, “You would if
you could, wouldn’t you?”
“I would love to.”
The sensuous smell of her lilac fragrance danced in Costa’s
nostrils like waves on a sandy seashore. Desire flared up in his groin,
and he dared to touch her little hand as if accidentally. She quickly
reciprocated by brushing hers against him. He gave her his best
smile and a wink. She winked back, and for Costa, heaven had just
opened its brilliant gates. He knew now that he could enter whenever
he wished. He promised himself he would call her one day soon. He
would try to ensure she opened that gate, and when she did, he would
enter triumphantly, victoriously. The prospect lifted Costa’s spirits
to the sky.
