“Good morning, honey. Did you sleep well?”
“Good morning, baby; are you hungry?”
“Hungry enough, I suppose,” she says and rubs herself against him a bit
more, smiling.
Soon the smell of fresh coffee is in the air, while Hakim gets the toast ready,
the phone rings. Jennifer grabs the receiver as she turns off the coffeemaker.
“Good morning. This is Bevan Longhorn. Is Hakim there, please?”
“Yes, Admiral, he’s right here,” Jennifer gives the receiver to Hakim.
“Hello Admiral.”
“Good morning Hakim, how are you?”
“Very well, thank you, Admiral; I spoke to my uncle this morning and he
sends his regards.”
“How is his health?”
Hakim gives him the details of Ibrahim’s health and the pending visit to
the hospital. The Admiral says, “I’m in Los Angeles and would love to have
coffee with you early this afternoon. I’m on my way to Washington later this
evening.”
“By all means, Bevan; I’ll see you later, at Earl’s perhaps, at twelve or
later?”
“Well, two o’clock sounds better, Hakim. Can you make it then?”
“Sure, see you there.”
Hakim gets busy organizing their breakfast.
“What does the Admiral want that he calls so early in the morning?”
Hakim looks at the clock on the wall; it is 9:30.
“Well, it isn’t that early, really; he’s in Los Angeles and wants to meet me
later. I’m going to see him at Earl’s at two.”
They eat their breakfast and Hakim decides to go for his regular walk in the park.
“I’d like to go with you this morning, honey.”
“Sure, come along.”
Emily Roberts looks through the patio door toward the yard and her flowerbeds.
There’re still flowers in bloom; geraniums, mums, and a few flowers on
the jasmine plant. She wonders what she should do with the house and all
these flowers if she keeps the place and gets a tenant; tenants seldom care for
your property. She comes to the conclusion that it would be best to sell the
house.
Talal stands behind her and he hugs her, and as if knowing what goes
through her mind, tells her she shouldn’t be so attached to the house.
